Teaching in India - Philip Radlanski
Placement : Mannar School, Ramanathapuram
There are a lot of funny incidents - too many to list them all. Anyway, my time in India was exciting; getting in touch with a totally different culture, living at the King's and the Queen's palace, travelling alone or with other volunteers, trying to teach a class on my own and so on.
I really had a great time and I will remember it all my life. I met a lot of volunteers and with two of them, my room-mate Andrew and Felix, I still have contact and we are planning to meet in the near future.
But the local people were very friendly, too. The King was very caring about me, he tried to fulfil every wish I had. The Queen was so nice and caring, she said, she feels like I'd be her own son and that was a great honour to me. I really like her and we phone twice a month.
I felt homesick some times, but looking back to that time, it was great after all. I have plans to visit South India again on my own / with some friends. Of course we'd stop by at the palace!
